Trobridge’s castles & cottages are a collection of unusual architectural buildings built in Kingsbury London.
Ernest George Trobridge was an architect and developer born in 1884 who specialised in domestic architecture for residential properties.
From 1921 to 1931, Kingsbury experienced the largest population increase of any district in north London and new housing was needed for ex-servicemen.
Bricks were in short supply after the war so Trobridge used elm timber to build inexpensive timber framed thatched cottages which included a patent fire extinguishing sprinkler system in each of the buildings.
When bricks become more readily available, he constructed unusual blocks of flats in the form of castles with battlements, tudor halls and romantic cottages.
